Juan Carlos Alonso is an author, illustrator, graphic designer and creative director. He has over 30 years experience in the graphic design/illustration field. His passion for nature has taken him around the world from Australia to Alaska to the Galapagos Islands to study animals both on land and in the sea. He is the coauthor and illustrator for the Ancient Earth series of books as well as author/illustrator of the Animal Journal series.

He is a three-time winner of Outstanding Science Trade Books for students (2016, 2017 & 2018), the 2016 International Literacy Association's Children's Choices the 2016 Reading List selection and The Bank Street College School of Education children’s book selection.
